Today we worked on our earthquake proof buildings.


Remember to make your labelled sketches and write your explanations about why you designed your building the way that you did.

Earthquake Proof Building


Criteria:
  • -       each story of your building can be no taller than a grade 6 math textbook
  • -       can not have more mass than grade 6 math textbook
  • -       the lego person cannot be attached to or supported by the building in anyway
  • -       must be able to see the lego person from the outside
  • -       must have enough room around the lego person so that it can tip over
  • -       you must be able to remove stories from each other
  • -       the winner will be the building that has the lego person standing or the one that can withstand the most shaking
  • -       the winner will be calculated by how high the lego person is located

    You need to hand in:
  • -       your finished successful design
  • -       explanation of why you built it this way
  • -       the results chart

May 15

Today, we had Mrs. Lim come and talk to our class about earthquakes. We are starting a project to design an earthquake proof building.

Here are some of the things Mrs. Lim wanted you to keep in mind:

Earthquake Proof Building
-  Design/drawing
- explain why you built it this way
- test and record results
- change design and retest
- do this as many times as necessary

- Science, mapping out volcanoes and earthquakes due on Friday
- look for materials at home that you could use to construct your earthquake proof building

Monday, May 12

Today, we had the opportunity to work on the school mosaic.  It was interested to work with a real artist and with our buddies.

- rough copy of compare/contrast writing
- gym strip
- deadline for grade 7 students interested in submitting artwork for the memory book is next Wednesday
- anyone who has not had a chance to do a student-led conference will be bringing some work home to share by the end of this week

Grade 7's:

  1.  There is a Sullivan Heights Carnival on May 22nd from 3:30 – 6:00 for all students, friends and family of ALL ages.  Tickets are $0.50 or 25 for $10.00. 
  2.  The Sullivan Heights Sr. Girls Volleyball Team is hosting a Volleyball Camp during the May 26th Pr0 D Day.  All students in Grades 5 – 7 are welcome and we have registration forms in the office.
  3.   Grade 7 Bridges is May 25th

Today, we had a Mystery Skype with a Grade 6 class at South Forsyth Middle School in Cummings, Georgia.  They were very good detectives.  They even found out our city and school name.
