We had guest speakers from PSST (Protecting Surrey Schools Together) visit us today. They discussed staying safe online and the idea of consent with youth.
Thank you to all the families that came out to our Literacy Night yesterday. It was wonderful to see everyone and to hear the stories from our class.
Way to go to Division 3 for learning about different countries and about KIVA. After hearing everyone's persuasive speeches, we voted to lend $100 to Esther from Kenya who has three children and is looking to buy fertilizer, soil and seeds.
We've been working on researching and building earthquake resistant buildings.
Here is a reminder of the criteria.
Earthquake
Resistant Building
(to be
done either individually, pairs or threes)
Your project consists of 2 parts:
Part 1 (in paragraphs):
-Research what makes buildings
earthquake resistant.Share examples of
famous buildings that have these characteristics.
-Explain which characteristic
you incorporated into your building to make it earthquake resistant.
Part 2 (the model)
-Build a model according to the
specifications set out in the handout given to you. The lego person needs to survive the shaking on the classroom’s shaker table in order to be considered a success. You choose where to position the person.I choose which direction the person faces. Please
review the guidelines in the handout given to you. Adults can help you with
any cutting or sharp objects. You should
be doing the building yourself or with your group. This is not a project for your family.
Due to date to share your findings and to
test your structure: April 1st.
Unfortunately, this afternoon we learned that the medical form that we ask you to fill out for Timberline Ranch was an older version of the current one and is therefore invalid.
We NEED to submit all of the paperwork for this outing no later than Monday, so it is IMPERATIVE that your child bring the new copy filled out Monday.
Again, we apologize for this oversight on our part.

Many classes at our school will be participating in this day of play. Your child is encouraged to bring a non-electronic toy to play with and to share. Remember to leave valuables at home. This will be an interesting day to see how students are able to play together without adult organization and create plans and resolve differences without adult intervention. Students will be expected to follow school safety guidelines.
