Friday, October 26

In Science, Division 3 and 4 learned about evolution by having a paper airplane challenge.  The planes that fulfilled the criteria went onto survival and the ones who did not became extinct.  The students whose planes went extinct had to learn from those who survived to create a newly evolved airplane using the characteristics for survival present in those alive. We also changed the environment and some species were provided with wind outdoors while others did not.

The question for students to reflect on is:

How was evolution seen in the paper airplanes.  Use the words from the definition from evolution (use your notes or use the video here).  Describe the surviving airplanes characteristics/traits versus the extinct species.  What happens in nature for evolution to occur?  Give examples of animals that exist now or existed in the past.  Please explain in your own words.

  • dress for the weather for Monday - we will be walking in the neighbourhood for WE Scare Hunger

Welcome to Division 3!  We've had a great start to the year.  We are lucky enough to have a beautiful new classroom in the new addition to the school.  We share a folding wall with Division 4 and will be participating in many lessons together.

One of our first math assignments is to learn about measurement by applying it to our real life in our classroom. Students have been measuring our new furniture and have learned about scaling real life objects to symbols on a chart, graph or map.  For homework, students need to complete the scale column on their math sheets in order to be ready to create maps of the classroom.  Remember, these maps will be used to actually organize our room. All of our furniture is on castors and is easily moveable.  Please see the photos for the estimated information that you need.
