Welcome back. We have already started on our third term units. We have started a unit on Egypt in social studies, fractions in math, and we are finishing up a unit on poetry.

Reminders:

– Page 164, grade 6, number one and two (use the textbook in our links page if you do not have one at home)

– Finish rough copy of diamanté poem

– Bring a canvas if you have not already done so

Friday, March 11

We had a lot of fun today with our class auction. We learned about impulse buying, peer pressure, and saving money.

Over the break, I would like everyone to work on writing the rough draft of their essay on a controversial topic. Also, remember to bring a canvas and paint brush. Remember to be reading every day and have a restful break.

Also, we will miss a class member of ours who is moving. Goodbye and good luck to Sidratul.

Tuesday, March 8

Yesterday our newscaster, Shivam, brought us some controversial news about a new law that has been passed. Today we discussed the topic further. The two topics we discussed were assisted suicide and the death penalty. We talked about the pros and cons and later we will be writing an essay on our viewpoint. It is a difficult topic to discuss but we tried to deal with it gently.

Parents who have not had a chance yet to comment on their child's portfolio should do so. It serves as a signature on the electronic portfolio. If you do not know your access code please email me and I will send you an invitation to the portfolio. The initial invitations were sent out in December.

Parent teacher conferences are  on Thursday and if you would like a chance to discuss your child's progress please make an appointment by calling the office at 604–594–2408.

Reminders:

– Early dismissal on Thursday at 1:40 fourth parent teacher conferences 

- Rough copy of three synonym poems

– Both grade 6 and grade 7 students will be having a math test on Friday on unit three.

– Grade sixes need to work on number one and number two on page 111

- Grade sevens, math workbook page 64 and 65

– Please bring pizza money to school if you ordered pizza

Wednesday, March 4

Today, we had a very interesting day which started off with a walk to McLeod Road Elementary where we went on a Google expedition to the Roman Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Pyramids and the base camp at Mt. Everest.  It was an amazing experience.

In math we reviewed multiplying and dividing with decimals.  In the afternoon, we re-tested our earthquake resistant buildings
